Ok, so it's probably not the first place you'd think of to go skiing, given the relatively low altitude of the slopes, the extremely cold temperatures, the short hours of daylight, and er... the price of a beer.

However, there's a certain appeal to skiing in Finland that makes it worth a visit - and that's the snow.

For starters, you're pretty much guaranteed it. And as a bonus, it's usually pretty decent because it's so cold.

Finland is also one of the best places to try your hand at other activities, from cross-country skiing, to snow-mobiles and husky-dog sledding. There's also the Lapland factor, making it an option if you have small kids and want to combine the novelty of a trip to see Santa Claus with a few days of skiing.
