Ski Clothing by Marmot
Marmot is an American brand of outdoor clothing and equipment which has a good reputation
amongst enthusiasts of many mountain-based sports, particularly hiking.
Formed in the early 1970's, it was one of the first companies to acyively use Gore-Tex
in it's products, and has tried to build it's reputation around being a modern, forward-thinking
company that continues to research and develop new materials and ideas for use in the outdoor aren

Marmot was formed in 1973 by two students who decided to manufacture their own
outdoor equipment whilst studying at the University of California Santa Cruz.
They had an early stroke of luck when one of the founders had a chance meeting with film-maker Mike Hoover whilst on a climbing
trip to Peru. A few weeks later Hoover rang to say he was making a new film and needed over 100 puffer jackets, could they make
them ? The film ? Mountain classic "The Eiger Sanction", with the legendary Clint Eastwood. Not a bad bit of publicity to start
with. They were also one of the first companies to work with Gore-Tex, buying the fabric in it;s very earky days of prodcution
from WL Gore & Associates to manufacture sleeping bags from it.
Following the success of their work with the fabric, Marmot quickly changed all it's outdoor products to use Gore-Tex, and
remains the longest-standing user of Gore-Tex in the outdoor equipment arena.

Nothing too flash or fancy to be honest, but plenty of bright colours. It's a bit of a middle of the road brand to be honest,
nothing to get too excited about in the style, but not a lot to dislike either.

Marmot's clothing is good quality stuff. The company were one of the first to use Gore-Tex in some of it's products, albeit
they were mainly manufacturing equipment like sleeping bags and tents back then. However, the company has a reputation
for looking at modern materials and advances in fabrics and is not afraid to test out new areas to give it an edge
over the competition.

Marmot's ski jackets are mainly around the 200 to 250 pound mark, so the brand falls into the mid-range
bracket of winter sports clothing.
